[Wanda meanwhile is in her Ultimates uniform, so as he adjusts his clothing, she's stretching her arms and legs, this and that to prepare for a light sparring session with Edgeworth.]
[It's nothing to be ashamed of, as far as Wanda's concerned. He mentioned he was a lawyer, and this just gives her an idea of how easy she'll need to start out to begin with.]
It's good that you've take advantage of the opportunity.
[He frowns at that statement - but a moment later, his face is composed; he bows.]
Nothing that would damage the surrounding environs; nothing that would cause true injury to the other party. Again, the point of this is simply to prove your fitness, not ultimately to prevail, so do what you must to display your capabilities.
[And because she is the one that is to be put to the test, she takes an alert stance, subtly shifting her weight to the balls of her feet as she steps closer.
For a moment, she's content to take a moment to study him, to move slowly and see if he'll go on the offense or not.]
When it seems that he too waits to see if she'll make the first move, she steps forward into action. She starts first with a feint from her left hand, testing, before following with a kick she expects he'll block if he's competent enough to do so.]
[She's certainly fast, and he knows essentially as soon as she moves that she's going to be better than he is. He's been training enough with Tyke that he is able to block the kick, though only just; as soon as he has blocked it, he steps back and away.
His counterattack is done from that distance. He uses the power of his mind to jerk her ankle out from under her while she's still on one leg - though it's gentler than it might be, because much of his concentration is given over to preparing to cushion her fall if she's in danger of hurting herself.]
[He's successful in jerking her leg out from under her. His power doesn't seem to be anything physically visible, which makes it harder to predict and block. Then again, her father's mutant power isn't visible so this isn't impossible to her, just challenging.
She hits the mats but immediately tumbles into a roll and slides back onto her feet immediately. If they're using powers, well, alright then. Wanda sends a hex bolt toward his feet. If it doesn't hit him directly, it will certainly bunch up the material around him to trip him up.]
[That was...rather spectacular, actually, and for a moment he's absorbed in seeing the physical manifestation of her ability rather than actually defending himself and fighting. Consequently, he's late jumping backwards to avoid it, and so the bolt does hit the ground and it does trip him.
Fortunately, he's quick-thinking with his power now; he uses it to slow his fall and support himself, so that he pushes back onto his feet. He's certainly, however, on the defensive now.]
[Since he's upped the ante a bit, Wanda continues more aggressively, approaching quickly and going in for another kick, and a jab if he can't think quickly enough to block her after a fall.
Her eyes are watching him quickly, carefully as she does, however, waiting for any sign of a tell if and when he chooses to use his power again.]
[He needs a bit of room to recover; he blocks the kick but the jab gets through, and he steps (doesn't stumble, at least - Tyke's training has done well) backwards -
So he uses his power again, picking her up with it, lifting her off the ground. The grip of the power around her waist is - perhaps a touch comically - gentle and gentlemanly, the wrap of telekinesis holding her demurely about her waist and upper arms.
It's an expenditure of energy - there's a rime of sweat on his forehead - but it's less effort than fighting.]
[Okay, so it is is telekinesis. Wanda's hands go to the grip at her waist which yes, is firm but gentle. It's automatic to try and pry him off, but it only lasts a split second. She does better matching power for power, and sends a hex toward him.
Like the one before, the bright pink bolt is powered by an equation of probability, one that when it hits him will affect the chances of his gift failing against his best efforts.]
[Wanda pauses then, watching him drop and slowly get up once more. She lands on her feet when his gift breaks, expecting it would, and her knees bend with impact.
Her expression shows a faint note of concern.]
We never said when our stopping point would be.
[Which is to say, she'll keep going until he's seen enough.]
[She would give him the opportunity to attack, but she is the one proving herself, and truth be told she thinks her advantage is far more than he's said. She lunges in to engage him hand to hand, preferring to let him stay upright and see if she can press him to try and use his gift against her as well. Considering its flexibility, she has to wonder if he has any other tricks up his sleeve.]
[He tries at once to increase the distance between them - but not very effectively. He has a technique that he can use where he can send himself hopping backwards quite far by the strategic application of his power against the ground, but he's not going to use it now; it makes him look ridiculous. So instead he steps backwards, blocking one punch and catching another in the shoulder.
He does, however, have enough leeway to spare some concentration. Experimentally, he tries using his power to form an invisible hand to grab her shoulder from behind, curious about her nerves and her gullibility.]
[The moment she feels the touch, she spares a quick glance behind her before she attempts to shrug the hand off. It's a brief move that she does in tandem with another solid kick toward his midsection. She doesn't want to use hexes against him if she can avoid it. Rather, she'd much prefer to simply test his own concentration when it comes to the power he never told her he had.]
[She's quick-thinking as well. He brings his power down on her knee, lowering it, so that she just hits him glancingly in the thigh. He has to concentrate on that, though, so he loses that grip on her shoulder; moreover, his intense concentration has caused him to forget about his fighting stance, about moving around.
He next pushes her backwards using that power, again trying to gain a bit of distance.]
[Wanda can feel the pressure of his power keeping her from hitting him hard, and the next push sends her stumbling backwards. Regaining her balance quickly, she decides that perhaps a more solid offense is in order. She's shown enough that she can counter someone and hold her own...that she can stall.
She summons another hex to her hands and sends a blast of power at Edgeworth, certain to hit him harder than any of the previous times.]
[And he tries to dodge - tries to bring his power to bear - but it has absolutely no effect upon that burst of light. It hits him full in the chest, and his leg twists and he goes down hard, falling on his rear end; it's only because of his training that he doesn't break his fall with his wrists.]
Ah -
[And then he shakes his head and holds up his hands.]

Did you learn to fight before you arrived here?

No.

It's good that you've take advantage of the opportunity.

I'd sooner I hadn't had to.
[And then he turns towards her, rolling up his shirtsleeves.]

[It's the way of life, and Wanda lifts her shoulders in a shrug as she moves to stand opposite him.]
Do you have any particular way you do things? So many rounds? Anything off-limits with regards to powers perhaps?
no subject
Nothing that would damage the surrounding environs; nothing that would cause true injury to the other party. Again, the point of this is simply to prove your fitness, not ultimately to prevail, so do what you must to display your capabilities.
Are you prepared?

Oof -
[It breaks his concentration; the telekinetic grip is loosed at once, so that Wanda will be loosed to fall to the ground.
He gets up, but a bit slowly; his physical attacks and reactions are slower by far than his mental ones.]

Your advantage over me is clear, madam; perhaps a bit more, and then you will allow me to call an end when my endurance is spent?

As you like.

Of course.
[She holds out a hand to offer him help up.]
You fight well for a lawyer, but then you're not just a mere lawyer, are you?
